His research work involves quantitative, behavioral, and immunological genetics with emphasis on avian species. He has extensively researched the general principles of stress on well being and has used the chick model to simulate stress across different species. As a geneticist Dr. Siegel studied expression analysis of growth and energy regulation and memory antibody response as influenced by dietary vitamin E. He has authored or coauthored over 400+ papers in refereed journals, symposia proceedings and chapters in books. He is the recipient of the Poultry Science Research Award, the CPC International Award for Poultry Research, the Gordon Medal, the Agroceres Trophy, Distinguished Alumni Awards from both the University of Connecticut and Kansas State University, and Inductee to the International Poultry Hall of Fame.
Paul is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Past President of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, Past President and Fellow of the Animal Behavior Society , Past President, Past Editor-in-Chief and Fellow of the Poultry Science Association, Past President, Past Editor-in-Chief, Fellow, Virginia Academy of Science and Past Senior Vice President of the World Poultry Science Association.
